A shining piece of fluid, melodic dynamism, Mondkrater and his “Mercury” EP reflected an impressive attention to detail and flair for the techno genre. Now revisiting the title track, remixes from rising Dutch and UK talents extend the German’s work further.

From the Dutch capital, home to a vast array of household names in the dance music industry, Huminal’s Paul Deetman and Jelle Jansen have found their own niche within an overcrowded industry with a unique brand of underground music that caught the personal attention of Marc Romboy and Paul Hamill via competition success at 2011’s Amsterdam Dance Event.

Regulars at clubs and festivals in their home city and across mainland Europe, from Paradiso and Sugar Factory in Amsterdam to Dance Valley and Groove City in Brussels, the pair have supplied a touch of class with their impressive musicianship and production skills. A growing portfolio of original works has adorned the finest modern imprints since 2014’s debut on FutureForm Music, as Lowbit, Particles and Clinique have all played host to the Huminal sound.

The outstanding “Knocking on the Sky” EP for Proton Music saw ‘A list’ remixes from Tim Penner and James Monro, while a June 2015 remix of Nikko.Z’s “Sungazing” is now enriched by a second remix for the label in a typically mature reworking of “Mercury”. Retaining the fluid melodic themes of the original, a shuffling percussive rhythm section and thumping kick plays anchor to gorgeous, pulsating additional production material as Huminal’s LFO infused melodies produce spine-tingling majesty in conjunction with a bass line work of art.

UK born, Austrian based producer, Dan Baseley, has witnessed a similarly meteoric rise to prominence through his Orsen production persona. Quickly adopting a distinctive multi-layered and sonically astute sound, Orsen’s work has quickly gained the support of DJ luminaries including Hernan Cattaneo and Cid Inc. Furthermore, so impressed with Orsen’s work have both been, that their respective labels have provided high profile vehicles for Baseley’s original work. The five-track “Komorebi” EP hit Sudbeat in January 2016 supplementing 2015’s “Look Twice” EP for Replug.

The three-track “Elysium” EP in June 2015 provided the first glimpse of Orsen’s magical touch for Particles while a pair of remixes of Ad Brown and Biologik demonstrated another side to his developing skill set.

Now making his debut on Proton Music, the Orsen reworking of Mercury” evolves elegantly with its rich melodic vibrancy, developing over the course of an enthralling eight-minute journey. Retaining the themes so integral to Mondkrater’s original, the depth of additional production through pulsing, textured pads and tinkling upper frequencies, leads to a delicate interpretation, full craft and guile.

In smooth quicksilver fashion, the temperature has been raised by two new remixes of “Mercury” from Huminal and Orsen.
